Vicarious Surgical Robotics
Huge Design worked with Vicarious Surgical on industrial design for a surgical robotics system composed of a surgeon console and patient cart. The project brings together surgeon control and visualization with the robot and camera hardware used for minimally invasive abdominal surgery.

Surgeon Console + Patient Cart
The workstation and patient cart share the same design language, which Huge Design devised to be equal parts capable and approachable.
The Vicarious Surgical system is comprised of a Surgeon Console, providing surgeon control and visualization, and a Patient Cart, enabling robot and camera insertion and manipulation.
To begin the design process, Huge Design observed the Vicarious robot and digested the requirements for the workstation’s control and visualization functions
Once comfortable with the system requirements and after exploring the operational ergonomics, our team developed design themes that aligned with the functionality of the workstation and the personality of the Vicarious brand.
Several ergonomic breadboard models were built along the process and eventually tested with our internal VR system to experience one-to-one feature placement.
Workstation
The result of our research, analysis, and iterations was a workstation that enables surgeons to operate the robot with either a VR headset or a traditional display.
